This is something special. On November 10th, a night before Sotheby's will auction the Blue Moon Diamond, Christie's will auction a rare 16.08ct vivid pink diamond.
There's been only 3 natural vivid pink diamonds over 10ct in auction of which this will be the largest cushion-cut. Pre-sales estimates for the diamond are in the $23-$28 million range.
This gem is unique not just baecause it's a huge diamond but also that it has no trace of a secondary colour. Yes, most other pink diamonds can have secondary colours. This has an even colour distribution, together with balanced saturation and tone hence GIA grading it as a "Fancy Vivid" colour.
This pretty pink diamond is set in a platinum ring and surrounded by a double halo of pave set white diamonds. The ring will travel to Hong Kong and New York ahead of it auction in Geneva.
"As large and rare coloured diamonds of this caliber become increasingly hard to locate, this 16.08 carat fancy vivid pink diamond comes to market at a time when great gems are mirroring prices achieved for masterpieces in the world of fine art. Collectors are looking to jewels as savvy investments that are both beautiful and can appreciate considerably in value over a relatively short period of time" - Rahul Kadakia, Christie's International Head of jewellery
