Violet diamonds are expecially rare.
The largest violet diamond recovered from Rio Tinto's mine in Western Australia is to go on sale at tender this year.
The mine has produced 12 carats of polished violet diamonds for tender in 32 years. More than 90% of the world's rare pink diamonds come from Argyle.
This Oval shaped 2.83ct beauty tagged the 'Argyle Violet' will be the highlight at Rio tinto's 2016 Argyle Pink Diamonds Tender. The sale will start with private viewings in June and travel to copenhegam, Hong Kong then New York.
Polished in Western Australia by Richard How Kim Kam, a longstanding argyle diamond cutter from a 9.17ct rough diamond, the Argyle Violet will capture the imagination of the world's leading collectors and connoisseurs.
